Looking back

On this day in 1968 I married my high school sweetheart.
Our marriage lasted 26 years and produced a daughter and a son.
We divorced in 1994.

Whenever this date comes around,
I'm not sure how to feel.

I used to feel sad,
but now I don't feel much of anything.

I am glad I stayed for the sake of my children.
They were worth it.

In 1995 I married Nancy,
who showed me what it is like to be truly loved.

We moved to Nashville in 1998
so we could start a new life together
free from the entanglements of my former life.
She died of leukemia in 2003.

At age 57 I was ready to be loved again,
and so I found Suzanne.

And we have lived happily ever after.
